“Now My soul has become troubled; and what shall I say, ‘Father, save Me from this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour.” “And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself.” But He was saying this to indicate the kind of death by which He was to die.” John 12: 27, 32-33
Jesus’ manner of execution was predicted as a symbol even in the desert under Moses, who lifted up a snake, and when the people looked at it, they were saved from a plague. By Jesus’ own words to His disciples it was clear He knew exactly how He was to die. He was whipped and His head covered with a crown of thorns, being mocked for His claim to be a King. His own people betrayed Him and demanded that He to be put to death by crucifixion, an instrument of Roman torture.
Jesus died at 3pm. Everything became totally dark, and the veil of the temple which separated people from the holiest place of worship, was torn in two from top to bottom, indicating that through the death of His Son, God Himself removed what separated us from Him. In this way God the Father made our redemption complete, if we embrace the sacrifice of His Son Jesus for our sins.
