Courage
24" x 48" oil on canvas
by Rosemarie Adcock
“Have I not commanded you?
Be strong and courageous!
Do not tremble or be dismayed,
For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9
In this painting, the young woman carves the Hebrew word for courage from the passage from the book Joshua into the tree while a timber wolf stalks her through the forest. The pear tree was traditionally used in early painting as a symbol of well-being, even in the face of extreme danger and difficult trials.
