God had placed Ezekiel in the middle of the valley where he looked over the whole area, and saw bones everywhere, on the surface of the valley. He then described them as being\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003every\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003edry, implying these were\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eancient remains of lives that were lost in a great battle.\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e The people were gone, but to notice additionally that the bones were so dry, he was pointing out something that gives meaning to the whole story.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAfter Ezekiel looked at all of this, God asked him, \"Son of Man, can these bones live?\"  Imagine the implication of such a question. His answer, really the only way he\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003e\u003cem\u003ecould\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003eanswer, \"Oh Lord, Thou knowest.\" In other words, \"I don't know, how about You tell me!\"\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eResurrection is spoken of several times in Scripture. The most well-known is Jesus being resurrected from the dead. Elijah in the Old Testament book of 1 Kings lay across a young boy who had just died, and the boy was brought back to life. Lazarus was in a tomb for four days when Jesus raised him, a declaration to His people that He had power over life and death.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThis valley of bones story is still different. The bones were very dry, indicating these bodies hadn't known life perhaps for centuries. Hope was beyond gone. Their remains were becoming part of a dusty landscape. No one bothered looking anymore, or remembering anymore. It was long since over. But not for God.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eGod instructed Ezekiel to prophesy to the bones, which he did. Suddenly there was a rattling noise and the piles of bones began to fall into place, \"bone to its bone.\" Only the Creator could know which bone should go where. Then God made sinews, then the flesh grew, and skin covered the bodies.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEzekiel saw that the bodies were complete, but still there was no breath in them. Then God spoke, and He put breath into those He called \"the slain,\" those whose lives were violently taken from them. Then they stood up, a very great army.
